Programs for Expectant Families

The CMMC Prenatal Education Department offers a variety of programs for the expectant family. For more information and for course dates and times, please call 215-361-4659.

Childbirth Preparation Class
Classes focus on both the physical and emotional aspects of labor and delivery with emphasis on relaxation and breathing techniques. A tour of the Family BirthCenter is included. We recommend taking these classes during the last 8 to 10 weeks of pregnancy. Couples are strongly encouraged to also take the Newborn Care class.

Fee:4 classes, $65/couple

One-Day Childbirth Preparation This one-day class is an alternative for couples unable to attend a complete preparation series.

Fee:1 class, $100/couple

Refresher Childbirth This one-day course is designed for couples that have attended a full childbirth preparation course with a previous pregnancy.

Fee:1 class, $35/couple

Newborn Care Important topics such as sleep, crying and safety issues (including car seats) are addressed. This class is strongly recommended for first-time parents.

Fee:1 class, $20/couple

Breastfeeding Your Baby This two-part series is taught by a certified lactation consultant. Fathers are encouraged to attend.

Part I – Provides practical guidelines on the benefits of breastfeeding as well as techniques and positioning.

Part II – Addresses techniques for the collection and storage of breast milk. This class is especially valuable for breastfeeding mothers returning to work.

Fee:1 class, $10/couple
 2 classes, $20/couple

Big Brother/Big Sister This family-oriented class is designed to help prepare your child for the arrival of a new baby. At least one parent must participate in the class.

Fee:1 class $10/child (ages 2-3)

All About Babies This family-oriented class is designed to prepare siblings ages 4 to 8 for the arrival of a new baby. At least one parent must participate in the class.

Fee:1 class, $10/child (ages 4 to 8)

Postpartum Services – The following services are available to help Central Montgomery Medical Center's new moms and dads after they bring baby home.

Call our special hotline with questions about yourself or your baby during the postpartum period. Call 215-361-4MOM (215-361-4666) anytime of day, 7 days a week, to speak with one of our caring, professional Family BirthCenter nurses.

New Mother's Support Group -- FREE
Meet with other new mothers to discuss common topics of interest, such as sleep, crying, feeding, time management and more. Call the Perinatal Education Department at 215-361-4659 for meeting dates and times.
