Programs for Expectant Families

Childbirth Preparation Class
Focus is on both the physical and emotional aspects of labor and delivery with emphasis on relaxation and breathing techniques. We recommend taking these classes in the last eight to ten weeks of pregnancy. Couples also are strongly encouraged to take the Newborn Care class. A Family BirthCenter tour is included.

One-Day Childbirth Preparation
This one-day class is an alternative for couples unable to attend a complete preparation series.
Refresher Childbirth
This one-day course is designed for couples who have attended a full childbirth preparation course with a previous pregnancy.
Newborn Care
Sleep, crying and safety issues (including car seats) are addressed. Strongly recommended for first time parents.
Breastfeeding Your Baby
Two-part series taught by a certified lactation consultant. Fathers are encouraged to attend.
Part I – Provides practical guidelines on the benefits of breastfeeding as well as techniques and positioning.
Part II – Addresses techniques for the collection and storage of breast milk. Especially valuable for mothers who are returning to work.

Big Brother/Big Sister
Designed to help prepare your child for the arrival of a new baby. At least one parent must stay for the class.

All About Babies
Designed to help siblings, ages 4 to 8, prepare for the arrival of a new baby. At least one parent must stay for the class.

The following services are available to help new moms and dads after they bring baby home.

New Mother's Support Group – FREE
Meet with other new mothers to discuss common topics of interest such as sleep, crying, feeding, time management and more. Call the Perinatal Education Department at 215-361-4659 for meeting dates and times.
